
Sonja Schulz is a professional dancer and aerialist, originally from Elk Grove Village, IL. She has been dancing with Kansas City Dance Collective since 2024, alongside teaching dance technique, circus, and yoga at local studios. She studied at the University of Iowa from 2015 to 2019, where she earned her BFA in Dance, BA in Economics, and 200-Hour Hatha Yoga Teaching Certification. While there, she had the privilege of studying under George de la Peña, Jessica Anthony, Melinda Meyers, and more. Her aerial training also began in 2015, at Aerial Dance Chicago, and she incorporated both dance and aerial in her final senior piece, sharing how important both are to her. Sonja has been grateful to perform and create in both the dance and circus fields ever since. Since moving to Kansas City in 2019, she has had the opportunity to perform with Circus Scorpius, KC Contemporary Dance, Quixotic, City in Motion, and in project-based works with Suzanne Ryan Strati and Katarina Fitzpatrick. 2026 will be her third season with KCDC, and some of her favorite shows have been Created By Chaos and As a Matter of Hats!
